Hero Who Rescued Abandoned Baby In Cemetery Surprises Her With Reunion 18 Years Later

  • (TruthSeekerDaily) One man's caring heart and quick thinking, gave a newborn baby girl the chance at life 18 years ago. He was her silent savior and the two have gone the girl's life until this point without meeting. That all changed when she reached a special milestone at 18 years old, her high school graduation.

In November 1995, Charlie Heflin rescued a newborn baby girl from a cemetery in Champaign, Ill. Now that little girl is a teenager who's graduating high school and had the chance to meet Heflin who saved her and provided her the opportunity to live her life after she was once left out in the cold.

Heflin, who was a volunteer firefighter at the time, happened to be listening to the police scanner when a call came in that there was a baby abandoned under a pine tree at Mt. Hope Cemetery. However, police failed to find the baby there, so Heflin went to another local cemetery on a hunch. He found the newborn infant just in time, as she wouldn't have lasted long in the subzero degree weather.

"I heard a little whimper when I got close to the tree. I dug down inside this real huge pine tree and found her."

That infant was adopted a week later by Bonnie and Greg James, who named this precious miracle baby Skyler. Bonnie James tried for years to contact her daughter's rescuer, to no avail, until right before Skyler's graduation party. Bonnie decided to surprise her daughter with this amazing reunion.

"I was totally shocked," Skyler James said. "It's something that I've dreamed of since I was a little kid, and it's amazing."

The two finally had that long awaited embrace of gratitude. Then, Heflin presented the teen with a one of a kind gift the jacket he wore the night he rescued her.

  • (TruthSeekerDaily) Couples plan their perfect wedding day for months, if not years, taking into account every fine detail. The guest list is carefully curated to include all the important people in a couple's life...however, sometimes unexpected guests show up and crash the wedding. That's exactly what happened with this unexpected attendee who showed up right in the middle of the ceremony, making for an unusually unforgettable event.

The ceremony crasher in this case was a giant sea turtle, too cute to get upset at, so the bride and groom let this visitor join the party, which took place in beautiful St. Croix.

What made this unique attraction even more interesting is that this wasn't any old sea turtle, it was a leatherback, which is the largest living breed of turtles on earth! The turtle brought along a side show too, allowing the wedding guests to witness the laying of it's eggs.

"It came ashore, circled around digging a hole, laid its eggs on the beach, covered them back up, and rolled back out into the ocean." -A guest explained.

This turtle really knows how to make an entrance like no other and almost steals the show! Undoubtably, this lucky couple will have extra specials memories of their nuptials like nobody else.

  • Cop Halts Oncoming Traffic for Most Adorable Reason — 22 Seconds Into the Video You See Why

  • (TruthSeekerDaily) Police Officare often associated with an egotistical attitude and in general get a bad rap. So when one comes along that acts contrary to that reputation, it's a good time to take note! This officer does not act like the tough guy, in fact anything but. Instead of stopping traffic for the typical reason officers do, this compassionate cop halted cars so a special family could cross the road.

Officer Kevin Putzy with the Eau Claire Police Department in Wisconsin made sure this mother duck and her ducklings could get across the road safely.

Watch the precious moment take place:

Putzy's touching act gained a lot of national attention, which brought about some teasing from his fellow officers at his station. As such he was rewarded with some duck-themed cupcakes — and he wouldn't even eat the duck decoration.

In the case of good cop versus bad cop, Officer Putzy is definitely the good cop.

  • This Little Weed Is One Of The Most Useful Medicines On The Planet

  • (TruthSeekerDaily) Nature can really be surprising sometimes, especially when it comes to healing powers of plants. Such magical plants aren't always in far off lands or deep in a deserted rain forest somewhere, in fact, they could be right out in front of your house!

A common weed many homeowners are in a perpetual battle with to eradicate from their driveway and sidewalk, has been discovered to be anything but the nuisance it's been treated as. In fact, it's the most useful medicines on the planet waiting to be harvested for the good it can do and it's called a plantain.

There are two major types of plantain in BC, Canada: Lance and Broadleaf. Generally, all 200-plus varieties of plantain yield the same results. It grows especially well in poor, rocky soil (such as driveways) and is often seen alongside dandelion. More often than not, you will see plantain growing in gravel pits and construction sites as nature seeks to regenerate the soil. Introduced to North America in the 1600s, it was once called “White Man’s Foot” by the Native Americans who witnessed that where the Europeans tread and disrupted the soil, plantain sprung up.

Although it's healing powers have been known and used before, it's not common knowledge by any means, and the extent of it's abilities to treat ailments has gone un-tapped until recently.

Plantain has often been the go-to remedy for hikers plagued by mosquitos. Because it draws toxins from the body with its astringent nature. It can be crushed (or chewed) and placed as a poultice directly over the site of bee stings, bug bites, acne, slivers, glass splinters, or rashes. By bandaging the inflicted area to hold the plantain in place, it can work it's magic within 4-12 hours.

Plantain may also be used to create a balm for emergency kits, or an infusion used as a skin or general wash. It is also a notable, soothing remedy for hemorrhoids.

It's curative properties go beyond topical treatments too! Plantain is renowned for its healing effect on the digestive system. This is especially useful for anyone who has been damaged by antibiotics, anti-inflammatory or pain medications, food allergies, or Celiac disease. Both leaves and seeds specifically target the digestive system for healing. The leaves may be steeped as tea, added to soups, or dried with a sauce similar to kale chips. The seeds can be ground or soaked for bulk mucilage or absorbable fibre, which if consumed before meals, may help with weight loss.

Because plantain is a gentle expectorant and high in silica, an infusion can be helpful for lung problems, coughs, and colds.

Plantain is nature's go-to for many common ailments, treating everything from all menstrual difficulties, all digestive issues, to nearly all skin complaints, and even arthritis. It also serves as an excellent dietary supplement and can be added to salads, chewed on the ease thirst, or added to stir fry dishes for extra nutrition and flavor.

The accolades of this plant has earned it the title of a wild vegetable rather than an innocuous little weed many yearn to get rid of. It's time to start embracing this super-plant and taking advantage of the cure-all nature has made readily available to us.

  • Grow a Garden from Garbage: 5 Plants to Grow from Food Scraps

  • (TruthSeekerDaily) Being a green thumb just got a whole lot greener with this ingenuitive gardening idea that is all about recycling. Before tossing out the food waste from your next meal, save it...it can be used to create more food!

Today's scraps can be replanted to become tomorrow's crops, as the most inexpensive and easy way to grow your own garden. Also, by replanting this way, you will be doing your part to change to trend in America of wasting good food. We throw away over 133 billion pounds of food every year, and still people go hungry right here in our homeland.

It's important to note that it's best to start the re-grown garden with fruits and vegetables that have been organically sourced. Non-organic produce is laden with pesticides and is herbicide-treated and as such won't grow a second generation. Additionally, GMO fruits or vegetables, are likely bred from suicide seeds that won’t produce another generation of viable seed.

Grow nutritious and nutrient-dense food right at home for your friends and family, starting with these five foods:

    1. You know the root ends you usually chop off of green onions before adding them to your favorite dish? Instead of ditching them, soak the roots in a container of water, leaving a short shaft of green above the water line in about an inch of clean water, and place them in the sun. As the plants grow taller, keep the water level higher. The roots will grow longer too, and in a few weeks you can transplant them to your garden to grow a whole new batch of green onions for your next gourmet delicacy, as the green part usually utilized in cooking grows back!

    2. Before throwing away the root base of your celery – another part of food we often dispose of – think again and save it. Set the base in a glass of shallow water, and in about a week you will see new celery shoots growing out of the center of the stock. I’ve started new celery in a kitchen window many times, and transplanted it to my garden once it starts to grow a few inches high. Suddenly it is now a brand new plant. Just make sure you plant once you start to see the outer stalks deteriorate. Celery likes cooler weather, so if it is too hot outside, you can transplant to a pot in your kitchen or by a sunny window in your home as well.

    3. Stop buying baby carrots, which are really just smashed up carrots reformed into little bit-sized pieces, and purchase organic carrots with the ‘tops’ still on. Use that green to re-grow some new carrots – well the greens, anyhow, which are actually very nutritious. You can’t re-grow an actual carrot, since you are eating the root of the plant when you consume them, but you can re-grow the carrot green tops using a little water, some sunlight, and a clear, shallow dish. Beet and turnip greens can be grown similarly.

    4. The next time you buy fresh ginger, don’t fret if you don’t think you’ll use all of it before it goes to waste. Instead, plant it, and grow even more fresh ginger. Just plant the newest buds (they kind of look like little eyes forming on the stalk) of the ginger facing up in potting soil. Find a nice rhizome from the store, use some to spice up a fresh juice or delicious dish, and then plant the remaining section.

    5. If you love summer and spring salads, try re-growing new romaine lettuce leaves from the heart. Lettuce is a great food to have around, and you can save quite a bit re-growing your own, especially since organic prices are usually higher than conventionally grown for most produce.

*It's also possible to grow potatoes, garlic that’s started to sprout, turmeric, pineapple, and red and white onions.

Think of how much money you can save while also doing your part to save the planet, with this fun way to grow and re-grow your own healthy food!
