(TruthSeekerDaily)  A five-year-old boy narrowly escaped being mauled by a wild bear thanks to a very unexpected hero, his pet dog.

While the boy, accompanied by his grandfather, was on a stroll in northern Japan with his furry friend Mego (who’s a Shiba Inu), a bear attacked this child when they reached the riverside.  Instantly coming to his companion’s defense, the dog barked “unusually loud” and chased the larger animal off.

The boy’s 80-year-old grandfather, who was close to his car, set the vehicle’s alarm off to further scare the bear away.

“Mego is usually calm and timid. It was a great surprise that she chased away a bear,” the dog’s owner said. “Mego has always been [the boy’s] friend and we have rewarded her with treats.”

Although the boy endured some damages from the incident, torn clothes and his back and bottom were covered in scratches and minor bruises, everyone is grateful he got away without more serious harm. He was taken to the hospital and released on the same day.

Animals have real instincts and emotions too, a fact that is sadly underestimated or completely unknown to some.  We need these faithful friends in our lives as much as they need us.
